Flexible working: part-time, job-share, and compressed hours are possible with these roles, in so far as requirements for service provision allows. In practice, most team members have potential for 1 day per week of home working, but tend to be in the office for 80-100% of the time.
MI5 and MI6 are part of the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats at home, overseas and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you’ll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.
Our Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologists play a vital role in our mission to protect the UK, supporting our people internally as they prepare to go into high-risk environments. As part of a dynamic and supportive team, you’ll work in our most fascinating and challenging corporate and mission areas. Translating complex information for non-technical audiences, you’ll provide advice related to risk and resilience, supporting individuals and teams who deliver impact at the heart of national security.
Day-to-day your responsibilities will include everything from consultations to teams and assessments of individuals, to development of training sessions and participation in research and audit projects. Whatever you’re doing, you’ll be committed to rigorous ethical and professional guidelines, always working with integrity.
You’ll have a master’s or doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for charterships with BPS) and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, with post-qualification experience. You don’t need any direct experience working in Government, Intelligence or Security – if you’re experienced, we’d still like to hear from you. We’re looking for people who are enthusiastic about their profession and have a commitment to continued learning, are eager to share their knowledge, and draw on that of others.
In return, you’ll enjoy many benefits including 25-30 days’ annual leave, and 10.5 days of public and privilege holidays, as well as an excellent pension scheme. We provide flexible working opportunities, supportive staff networks and social groups, and a variety of on-site facilities. We’re also committed to helping you fulfil your potential. So you can look forward to extensive internal and external training, with guidance and support to fill your knowledge gaps, and pursue future development and career goals.
You’ll join an organisation that’s dedicated to building a diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. We put inclusion at the heart of our organisation and continue to promote a culture where everyone feels safe and supported to be exactly who they are.
At MI5 and MI6 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
