About the Team

HM Treasury’s Prudential and Sustainability Team develop policy on prudential banking and sustainable finance. This role sits in the Prudential side of the Team. We have taken forward significant amounts of legislation in the last few years and advised the Chancellor on high profile announcements on reforms brought in following the financial crisis. We are also delivering significant work to amend legislation which was inherited from the UK’s membership of the EU.

Our team is responsible for policy contained in the Capital Requirements Regulation and Securitisation Regulations. Following the 2008 financial crisis, these regulations aimed to protect households and investors by ensuring that banks hold enough capital to protect against the risk of loss and by introducing new safeguards for securitisation products being bought and sold in the market.

About the Role

As a Senior Policy Advisor, you’ll be working in a stretching role, supported by a friendly and high-performing team. We are offering significant autonomy to deliver meaningful legislation and build a wide network across HM Treasury and other organisations.

You will need to adapt to changes in our policy environment but your key responsibilities will include:

1. Preparing legislation to transfer bank capital and liquidity regulation to regulator rulebooks and ensuring the delivery of advice and briefing to ministers throughout the legislative process.
2. Advising seniors and ministers on how the UK financial regulators are implementing new rules on capital requirements for banks and securitisation.
3. Setting the direction for, and delivering, policy development regarding overseas regimes related to capital regulation.
4. Leading policy development related to securitisation, including advising seniors and ministers on legislative requirements to support regulator rule making.
5. Line management of one SEO.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have experience of financial services regulation or the legislative process. Not only this; you’ll have clear, honest and enthusiastic communication skills, able to explain sophisticated issues in a straightforward way. You will be able to deliver high quality work in good time, as well as ensuring that your plans and activities reflect wider strategic priorities, communicating effectively with senior leaders to influence strategic directions.
